BLISTERS AND BLACK TOENAILS

Better than Expected: 2015 Year In Review

How is it almost the end of the year already? This year absolutely FLEW by. To be honest I'm happy to see the end of this year. It wasn't awesome, but it wasn't horrible either - It was just kinda "meh". It wasn't a HECK YEAH kind of year like some of my previous years (2013 in particular) I did get to race a fair bit this year but I never raced at 100%. There was always some kind of niggle or...

Celebrate the Little Things

This is the time of year for celebration and it can be quite busy.   We celebrate our holiday traditions with friends and family.  We celebrate the end of another year.   The end of the year always has me reflecting on how the year unfolded.   What things stood out for me?  What things did I take the time to celebrate for myself and for others?

There are a LOT pretty awesome moments that I...

It Got Ugly Out There: Eagleman 70.3 Race Report

I didn't really have a goal going into this race. Especially given the fact that we signed up for it 9 weeks out. That's not to say that I hadn't been training because I had. At least swimming and biking. Running had taken a bit of a back seat in terms of longer distances. I figured 9 weeks would be enough time to build my mileage up. Looking at the Eagleman course, it looks deceptively easy...

Only Days Left

This time next week I will be sipping a coffee with my feet up at the Hyatt in Cambridge, wearing my Eagleman finishers medal. We are down to days now. Every time I think about it, I get butterflies and I kind of want to puke. I keep watching the water temperature. It went down to 68 degrees last week but now it's back up to 71. Far too close to the wet suit legal cut off for my liking! I'm...

Cautiously Optimisitc

Well after multiple visits to Peter and his steel thumbs, as well as a very scaled back week of training, my sciatic nerve issues seem to be settling down. The pain seems to be much more localized now to a couple of specific spots. Very small spots that I think Peter just crushed with his thumbs of steel. Some Tylenol and maybe a bit of ice and I should be good to go for my first race of the...

T is for T-A-P-E-R

Wow, June 1st already. 13 days till Eagleman. We did our last big workout yesterday in the pouring rain. It was brutal. If Eagleman ends up being 10 degrees and rainy, we'll be ready! Well, as long as I get my back / sciatic nerve issues sorted out. I had a decent ride yesterday but there was sciatic pain for most of it. My run was awful. I had sciatic pain for the entire run. I had to stop and...

The Week That Wasn't

If life keeps going at the pace it's going, my weekly updates are going to start happening mid-week instead of Mondays, ha.  I can't seem to carve out any decent chunk of time to do anything these days.

When things go to hell in a hand basket, they really go. I had another big week of training on the calendar last week but it just didn't happen. My back has decided to cause me problems so I had an...

Thinking Out Loud Thursday

Hey!  It's been a while since I've linked up with Amanda for a T.O.L.T and since there are so many random things flying around in my head, I figured why not.  So here comes the thought vomit.

1. I am addicted to these little guys. One of my co-workers gave me a couple a few weeks ago when my stomach was bugging me and wow. Not only did they help ease my tummy ache but they were freaking delicious....

Ice Cream + Beer x Good Friends = One Awesome Weekend

Normally I do my weekly recap on Mondays but since yesterday was a holiday and I was still out of town on a training weekend, it's coming at you today. This past weekend was the Victoria Day long weekend, which us Canucks always think of as the first long weekend of the summer, even though it's technically still spring. It's the weekend that sees people heading north to open up their cottages...

The Big Weeks Are Coming

Haaaaappppy Monday!!! What a FABULOUS week / weekend last week was. It was like we skipped spring and went directly to summer. Saturday felt like a mid July day it was so hot. It was good training for Eagleman because apparently it can get really hot in Cambridge. Speaking of Eagleman, they released the swim waves last week. There are 21 waves. Yes, you read that right, 21. I head off at 7:52 am....

My Big Phat Crazy Weekend

Monday.  You are always such a slap in the face.  Especially after a most excellent weekend.  The sun was shining, it was finally HOT and I got my first bad tan lines of the season (yay for perma shorts!).  I could have easily kept that party going but alas, I'm not independently wealthy so I have to work now so I can play later.

I had the Mississauga 10km scheduled on Saturday even so that meant I...

Less Than 7 Weeks To Go

Yup. Just under 7 weeks left until Eagleman. Geez. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I know I'm going to have to really dial things in over the next few weeks. Especially my running. I had grand plans of running 19km on Saturday but my legs had other ideas. I think it was just as well since they would have been completely useless in Sunday's race. Instead they were ok, it was my bike handling...
